Day 1 - Great Start!!!

Day one of the Island LC invitational Swim Meet was a success on all accounts for the Killer Whales Swim Club. Two medal performances and a new AAA qualifier were just some of the great performances for the Killer Whales. Alec Page turned in his very first BC Provincial Qualifying time in possibly the toughest event, swimming the 200 Butterfly in 3:22.5 to eclipse the qualifying standard of 3:22.9 and earn himself to the BC Provincial Swimming Championships in Prince George in July.

Brock Hoyt, swimming in the middle of the pool overcame a poor start and turn to churn his way to a third place finish in the 15 and over boys 100 Breaststroke, equalling his morning time of 1:13.55. In what was widely regarded as the bigget upset of the night, Aven Preston, who failed to qualify for the night final in the girls 200 Butterfly, was given a second chance to swim as an alternate and dropped 9 seconds off of her best time to finish third in 2:57.9.

Other finalists were Hoyt in the 200 Fly, Page in the 100 breast and Andrea Gilbert (7th in 50 freestyle), Kirsten Rowbotham (6th in 100 breaststroke). Competition resumes tomorrow morning.
