CRKW Results - Day 1 of Island Cup Invitational

Day one of the Island Pacific Cup showcased some very fast swimming from the Killer Whales. In the evening finals CRKW amassed 10 evening finals, including some much faster swims than the morning. In order of the events swum, Taylor Padington and Carter Gorjeu both had an 11-12 200 free final with Padington placing 6th and Gorjeu 7th respectively. Gorjeu's time of 2:27 was 5 second faster than his qualifying swim in the preliminaries.

Coming up after the 200 free was the 100 breaststroke where Jennifer Guindon took out the first 50 in a blazing 39.5 but faultered a bit to finish in 8th in a best time of 1:26.6. Kirsten Rowbotham entered the 13-14 girls final in third place and, after posting a best time of over a second in 1:14.8 in the final, going head to head with two other fast girls, she ended up in third place overall.

The 200 fly also saw two finals with Padington swimming her senond of the night and posting a best time of 3:03 in the finals, good enough for 6th place. Alec Page also saw action in the 13-14 boys 200 fly final swimming a 2:33, placing 7th overall.

The 50 free finals were the last events of the session and the Killer Whales went out in style!!! Carter Gorjeu and David John Palmer were up first in the boys 11-12 final and Gorjeu placed 2nd in 30.3 while Palmer finished in 3rd place with a 30.7. Following them was Kirsten Rowbotham and Aven Preston in the 13-14 girls final. Rowbotham won the event in a best time of 27.8 while Preston placed third with a time of 28.43, qualifying her for the Western Canadian National Championships in Regina in February, joining Rowbotham as CRKW's two current qualifiers.

From the morning session, other sensational swims were done by Morgan Healy (10:08.1 in the 800 free / 1:21.0 in the 100 breaststroke), Marisa Gorjeu (9:42 in the 800 Free), Adriaan Kruger (27.8 in the 50 free), Karlyn Healy (33.9 in the 50 free), Jocelyn Cormier (32.5 in the 50 free), Jane Pomeroy (2:22 in the 20 free), Andrea Bernard (32.4 in the 50 free), Jessica Harris (31.1 in the 50 free) and Carly Papagiannis (32.1 in the 50 free).
